Zion – Friendzone
Meet singer songwriter ZION, the 19 year old British-Nigerian artist stepping up in the South London R&B scene. Premiered on 1Xtra last night his new single ‘FriendZone’ is released via Virgin EMI today.
Directed by legendary African video director Sesan Ogunro, the video for ‘FriendZone’ sees Zion head for the beach in South Africa where he takes in the picturesque scenery. It’s the perfect accompaniment to the track, a catchy slice of R&B that foregrounds his versatile vocals and mixes Afrobashment influenced melodies.
‘FriendZone’ follows the release of Zion’s ‘No Wahala’ – a take on Ivorian Coast Group Magic System’s Afrobeats classic ‘Premier Gaou’ which has garnered over 700k streams since its release a month ago – and came hot on the heels of Zion signing to Virign EMI.
