Blake Shelton – Tequila Sheila

After announcing “Friends and Heroes 2019” earlier this week, country music superstar Blake Shelton continues to show old-school country some modern-day love with his cover of “Tequila Sheila” (listen HERE). Originally released in 1980 by Bobby Bare on his album Down and Dirty, the reimagined throwback tune features an introductory vocal by Bare himself. Fans can keep an eye out for more country classics from Shelton leading up to his headlining run this winter.

“One of the coolest things I’ve been able to do in my career, because I’ve been fortunate, is be a little selfish along the way and be able to record some songs that I grew up loving,” Shelton said. “I feel like they have helped shape who I am as an artist and were what inspired me to want to be a country singer. I recorded this song and didn’t really have a plan for it – I just wanted to have my own version! I’m a huge fan, and I always felt like Bobby Bare’s personality was the kind I wanted to have as an artist too.”

Covers aren’t the only way the Platinum-selling entertainer is choosing to support those he admires. Blake Shelton’s “Friends and Heroes 2019” brings together artists that span the timeline of country music (see tour announce video HERE). ACM New Female Vocalist of the Year winner Lauren Alaina will join Shelton on the road along with special appearances by country icons the Bellamy Brothers, John Anderson and Trace Adkins. The tour will begin on February 14 in Oklahoma City, OK (all dates below).

When fans are not watching Shelton as a coach on his 15th season on NBC’s The Voice, they can hear him take country radio by storm with his latest single “Turnin’ Me On.” He has already performed the “smoldering, mid-tempo number” (Rolling Stone) on major television stages including Late Night with Seth Meyers, TODAY, the 2018 CMT Awards and more.

“Turnin’ Me On” follows smash hits “I Lived It” and “I’ll Name The Dogs,” the latter of which notched Shelton the 25th No. 1 single of his career and recently earned its RIAA Gold certification. All can be found on his chart-topping Warner Bros. / Warner Music Nashville album Texoma Shore. Described as a record of “easy-going country gems” (People), it became his sixth record to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and marked his 11th all-genre Top 10.
