Check It Out: David Alan Grier on QuestLove Supreme
On this week’s QuestLove Supreme podcast, actor and comedian David Alan Grier keep Team Supreme laughing with stories about his encounters with Prince, Aretha Franklin, and Dave Chapelle.
Grier starts out talking about growing up in Detroit and not being allowed to pursue acting and music for much of his young life, and how his time in college helped him find his love for musical theater that eventually led to his Broadway successes. His childhood was filled with inspirational iconic moments – such as marching with Martin Luther King Jr. and going to church with Aretha Franklin.
After Broadway, Grier switched to acting full time – starting out with more serious roles and eventually switching to comedies and gaining worldwide recognition with his variety show In Living Color and stand-up comedy performances. He still loves live musical theater – playing the Cowardly Lion in NBC’s live performance of The Wiz Live! and Santa Claus in Fox’s A Christmas Story Live!
