Michelle Obama kicked off her highly anticipated book tour, Becoming: An Intimate Conversation With Michelle Obama, at the United Center in Chicago – her hometown. Oprah Winfrey spent the opening night of the tour in conversation with the former First Lady. “One of the most remarkable stories I have ever witnessed is the becoming of Michelle Obama,” Ms. Winfrey said in her introduction.

10 percent of ticket inventory from each stop are being given to local charities, schools, and community groups in each city the tour visits. Produced by Live Nation, the outing continues on to Los Angeles later this week.

Mrs. Obama shared musings and life lessons with the sold out arena that included high school students from her alma mater, Whitney Young.  “Failure is a feeling long before it becomes an actual result,” she said – reiterating a message she highlights in her memoir.

“This book is me fully,” Mrs. Obama told the crowd about her highly-anticipated memoir. BECOMING is available now in the U.S. and Canada from the Crown Publishing Group, a division of Penguin Random House, as well as in 28 languages around the world.
