Oxymorrons – See Stars

Fusing-genres and citing unexpected influences has become part of the Oxymorrons brand. The NYC-based Alternative band are turning heads with their unapologetic approach to sonic creation and show no signs of slowing down. They have been hard at work this year creating un-boxable bangers which will culminate in their new EP – which rumour has it will drop before the end of 2018. Oxymorrons are hitting the road towards the end of October with Chicago genre-benders Bonelang, but before jumping in the sprinter the band decided to unveil another undeniable tune. The track, entitled “See Stars,” delves into insecurities, struggles and mental health issues in an uplifting way. These guys have been through it all and penned a track that is both refreshingly honest and musically solid.

“This song came together very organically as we opened up about our years hustling and struggling. It’s brutally honest about the current state of the world and how the music industry can be. It tackles a lot of the hardships we’ve faced in different facets of our lives. Writing this song helped me come to terms with my mental health struggles – battling through anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts. It ended up being really therapeutic and helped all of us find release and focus. We feel ready to go out and achieve the success we’ve worked and sacrificed for. We’re using our voices to not only liberate ourselves but liberate others. We’re about to see the fruits of our labor and the world will see stars.” – Oxymorrons

The band has partnered with new cutting edge app iRel8 to help battle mental health stigmas. This week the app launched a semi-private Oxymorrons chat room where fans can go to connect and find support. The band has also been gifted 2500 free one-year subscriptions for their fans.

iRel8 believes people have an innate need to connect with each other and has created a social network for mental wellness were people can relate to one another. iRel8 is using Microsoft technology to proactively bridge the gap to stop the stigma and make a positive impact on mental health. “Oxymorrons, could easily be dubbed ‘The Mash Out Posse’ by the way they clash hip-hop, funk, rock and alternative sounds into a tune.” – VIBE

When you think about Alternative music in 2018 Oxymorrons undoubtedly come to mind. The New York-based boundary-pushers have made a name for themselves in the spirit of change – building a movement from years of being told they were too rock for hip-hop, too hip-hop for rock. They boldly committed to creating music that defies these arbitrary rules of classification, which cemented the band as early pioneers in this current genre-blending and bending revolution.

They’ve toured with and opened for the likes of Lupe Fiasco, Gym Class Heroes, Waka Flocka, Ludacris, Rihanna, and more. Found synergy in brand partnerships with Dr Martens, Rocawear, Microsoft, Taco Bell and beyond. Oxymorrons larger than life songs have been used in ads for ABC’s The Mayor and Converse, and featured on ESPN’s First Take. Over the years the band has received co-signs from Complex, VIBE, Hypebeast, Highsnobiety, Ebro Darden’s Beats 1, The Fader, Consequence of Sound, UPROXX, MTV, and used their growing platform to give back to causes they support including the Ad Council, Jed Foundation and Hip-Hop Hacks.

With a new project in the works and a seemingly endless accolades, Oxymorrons have proven to be an act worth watching.
