Patrice Rushen on QuestLove Supreme

Patrice Rushen

On this week’s QuestLove Supreme podcast, jazz pianist and R&B singer Patrice Rushen reflects on her life and the impact she’s had in the industry.

Patrice grew up in south Los Angeles, eventually earning a degree in music from USC after falling in love with the LA jazz scene. This love started in high school, where she won a contest and the prize was to perform at the Monterey Jazz Festival. Her performance caused record labels to chase her and her first deal with Prestige Records was born.

After focusing on school and switching labels, Patrice dove headfirst into the industry. She discusses her personal and professional involvement with Prince, along with the hard work that went into the hit single Forget Me Nots and its use in Men In Black.

A new edition of the Questlove Supreme podcast is available to listen to every Wednesday on Pandora right HERE.

Questlove Supreme is a weekly podcast hosted by Questlove, drummer for the Tonight Show’s house-band – The Roots, NYU Professor, and strategic ambassador and advisor at Pandora. New episodes are available on Wednesdays and run exclusively on Pandora.

The show provides a combination of interviews, humor, pop culture and music. Consequence of Sound summed the show up as a “music junkie’s dream,” specifically for its “handpicked mixtape of Questlove-approved jams.”
