Rapper Kubii Breaks the Internet From Sierra Leone With Unorthodox Freestyle Videos About Life In Africa

In recent years, there has been a renaissance of unique grime and UK hip hop artists that come from the most unexpected of places. Kubii is a prime example of this as his recent videos showing him freestyling with groups of children in Sierra Leone have amassed tens of thousands of views on in a matter of days. These particular challenges have seen him garner cosigns from the likes of Smoke Boys and Ambush as well as being shouted out on major platform, Mixtape Madness.

Hailing from the streets of Accra, Ghana, Kubii is a unique breed. Combining Afrobeat, dancehall, grime and an old school rap style to create something he has graciously dubbed “Afrogrime”. A grass root sound from the heart of Africa that stays just as true to it’s Ghanaian roots as it does it’s British ones.

In Kubii’s most recent release, Cats and Bags, the laid-back vibe of the instrumental track is matched with a slick visual that was organically created in Accra, Ghana. The whole feel of the track harks back to a simpler time and brings a fresh, grass roots sound from the heart of Africa that beautifully crosses over with the culture of UK Hip-hop. Rapping partially in Pidgin, Kubii brings unique wordplay and flow by creating unusual rhyme schemes through his use of multiple dialects.
