Remy Johnson is the son of an MK Freedom Fighter. The family was forced to flee and went into exile in the United States in the late 1980s following multiple attempts on the life of Remy Johnson’s mother.

Background

The artist made it clear from an early age that art and music would be the dominating and driving forces he’d utilize to deliver his unique perspective on life. Raised in a musically active household of eclectic tastes, by the age of 11 his talent afforded him the opportunity to perform with legends that included Gary Hines and Billy Steele from the Grammy Award-winning vocal and instrumental ensemble, Sounds of Blackness.

By the time he’d reached the age of 16, Remy Johnson was being mentored by American rapper and actress, Toni Blackman, the first hip hop ambassador to the U.S. State Department. She gave him the nickname “Lil Nas.”

He later relocated to his native South Africa where he earned a substantial following through his lyrical prowess on platforms that included “Full Clip with Siz and Scoop” on YFM and producing for African and Nigerian hip hop and Afrobeat artists.
