On December 15, 2000, the American romantic comedy film “What Women Want” made its debut on the big screen. The film was written by Josh Goldsmith, Cathy Yuspa, and Diane Drake, directed by Nancy Meyers. The all-star cast included two time Academy Award Winner Mel Gibson and Academy Award, Winner Helen Hunt.

The film was a box office hit grossing $182 million in North America and grossed $374 million worldwide after securing a production budget of just $70 million.

The setting of the film was based in Chicago surrounding an advertising executive and alpha male named Nick Marshall. Marshall was raised by his Las Vegas showgirl mother and is multi-talented at selling products to men and is a ladies man to the ladies.  He is expecting to receive a big promotion, but his boss has other ideas and decides to hire Darcy McGuire to show the firm’s appeal to women.

During this whole plot, Marshall’s 15-year-old daughter, Alex, is staying with him while his ex-wife, Gigi, and her new husband Ted are on their honeymoon. While in her father’s care, Alex is embarrassed by her over-protective father in front of her boyfriend Cameron.

Meanwhile, back at work, Darcy begins to assign tasks to the staff, including Nick, to create advertising ideas for a variety of feminine products that she shares during the meeting.  After going home and testing some of these products Nick falls into the bathtub with a hairdryer and gets electrocuted. The following morning, Marshall discovers that he can hear women’s thoughts, and finds out what most women think of him.

Moving forward Marshall plots to take Darcy idea and presents it as his own, but begins to develop romantic feelings for her.  The two begin to spend more time together, and the relationship becomes romantic. Marshall would later trump McGuire idea and goes with a pitch from a  Nike ad campaign aimed at women. This would then lead to McGruire being dismissed from the company.

He would later lobby for her to be rehired and told the truth about who’s came up with the original idea for the ad.  Over time he started making an effort to repair some of the relationships with the women in his life.

Well, 19 years later after the release of the “What Women Want,”  The writing team of Tina Gordon Chism, Alex Gregory, Peter Huyck, Chris Spain, Jas Waters, and Jon Zack with director Adam Shankman will release “What Men Want.” The All-star cast will feature Wendi McLendon-Covey, Tarai P. Henson, Shaquille O’Neal, Grant Hill, Tracy Morgan, Brian Bosworth, Erykah Badu, and Dallas Maverick Owner Mark Cuban.

I recently spoke to Cuban about his experience with the cast of “What Men Want.”

“It was fun. We had a great time it is a remake of the Mel Gibson Film, but it’s going to be five times better, says Cuban.  He would continue “Not because I’m in it, Shaq’s in it, but because Taraji P. Henson does a phenomenal job. Everyone came in with a great attitude, and all laughed it up playing poker.”
