Higher Brothers Release Chinese New Year Anthem, “Gong Xi Fa Cai”

China’s biggest rap group, Higher Brothers, ring in the Chinese New Year with the release of “Gong Xi Fa Cai,” the latest single from their forthcoming sophomore album, Five Stars. Produced by Atlanta-based Asian American producer, Richie Souf, “Gong Xi Fa Cai” is the follow-up China anthem to Higher Brothers’ other Richie Souf-produced hit, “Made In China.” “Gong Xi Fa Cai” translates to “wish you get rich,” a popular greeting used during New Years celebrations. An ode to prosperity, abundance, and Chinese culture, the track is another example of Higher Brothers introducing Chinese culture to the world through the universal power of hip-hop. Releasing February 22nd, 2019 via 88rising, Higher Brothers’ sophomore album, Five Stars, is poised to be the biggest Chinese hip-hop album in history. The 14-track project features previously released singles, “Open It Up” and “16 Hours,” in addition to guest appearances from some of the biggest names in American hip-hop. Earlier this month, Higher Brothers released the music video for “Open It Up,” which was praised as “a confident, dextrous, irrepressible slice of throwback hip-hop,” (Noisey) and already racked up over a million views. Previous single, “16 Hours,” is seeing similar success, surpassing one million views on the 88rising YouTube channel and prompting the release of an accompanying “16 Hours” documentary by Emmy Award-winner Christine Yuan.
