Ron Louis Smith II – Need it Tonight

Son and Nephew of Famed Original “K.C. and the Sunshine Band” Members Has Teamed Up With Legendary K.C. Producer/Songwriter/Arranger/Bassist Rick Finch For A Modern Take On His Original Sunshine Sound

Bringing back the magic of the classic 70s Miami party sound with a fresh new twist is no easy feat. But for producer/arranger/singer/songwriter Ron Louis Smith II, help came in the form of an old friend on his latest track “Need It Tonight” – original K.C. and the Sunshine Band co-founder Rick Finch!

As the son of Ron Louis Smith and nephew of Jerome Smith – renowned for their role as the ‘heart and soul’ of the legendary KCSB horn and rhythm sections (as well as numerous musical contributions outside the band like playing on Bob Marley’s “Buffalo Soldier”, records like Jimmy Bo Horne’s “Dance Across the Floor” and Betty Wright’s “Explosion”), Ron Louis Smith II is no stranger to his family legacy. Steeped in everything from Disco to Funk, Reggae to Soul and much more – he’s bringing some of that magic right back with his latest single.

Taking the helm on “Need It Tonight”, famed producer/songwriter/arranger/bassist Rick Finch is no stranger to hit music. Having co-founded 70s disco hitmakers “K.C. and the Sunshine Band” with singer/keyboardist Harry Wayne “K.C.” Casey, the duo co-produced six number one pop hits – “Get Down Tonight“, “That’s the Way (I Like It)“, “(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty“, “I’m Your Boogie Man“, and the sweet ballad “Please Don’t Go“. Their collaboration lead to over 150 million recordings worldwide; twelve Grammy nominations (including three Producer nominations on the first round 2010 Grammy Award Ballot); three Grammy Awards; one American Music Award; 15 BMI Songwriter/Arranger Awards; Gold, Platinum and Multi-Platinum awards; 17 #1 pop singles – including four #1 singles in one 12-month period, and three crossover #1 hits and two albums achieving triple platinum status. Today, Finch’s bass lines are recognized worldwide and have been sampled by artists including 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Ultra Nate and Beyoncé to name a few.

Now making his return behind the mixing board, Finch has put the perfect spin on the funky, bass-driven grooves of Smith’s fun, sexy, dance-inducing track that pays homage to the K.C. legacy while staying true to the modern Miami dance music scene.

Ron Louis Smith II has co-wrote with some of the biggest DJs/Producers in the EDM and House Music movement such as Joris Voorn (“Spank the Maid”), Umek (“Spank!”) , Black Legend (“The Word”), along with  Gary Caos, Joe Smooth, Marco Santoro, Luca Guerrieri, Joey Negro, and Sandy Rivera. He continues to strengthen his family’s legacy with a new commercial Funky/pop/rock project called “Part 2“.

Ron Louis Smith II is Dance Music, and now with “Need It To

night” making its debut on February 22nd, his latest collaboration with the legendary Rick Finch is sure to solidify just that!
