SPLOCO Release Alternative After-Party Anthem, Mary Wanna Cigarette

Recorded by ‘Señor Al Funklinos’ (King Krule, Ghostpoet) in his small but legendary studio in South East London, SPLOCO have just released release their latest single and video “Mary Wanna Cigarette.”

The melodic and soulful indie-rock track comes across as an after-party lament – an eerie, nostalgic reminder of a time and place we all wish we didn’t know so well:

A marijuana cigarette, we should leave soon but we don’t know where…”

Pushing the three minute pop song structure to the limits (or more like just-under-four-minutes-but-we’ll-call-it-three-yeah) – it features a wailing guitar riff as the main hook and a sing-along outro that embeds itself into your mind all too easily…

“So weird and wonderful” BBC Introducing, Tom Simkins

In true indie fashion the track was released alongside a pastel-coloured music video made by two experimental film-makers, Albiana Morina and Auguste Bartninkaite. Bizarre and colourful, the whole experience provides ample ear and eye fodder for all consumers of the YouTube generation to discover at their pleasure…

Guitarist, ‘Father Doe‘, describes the track:

“Anthemic khoruses, Celestial ghuitars. A magnificently woozy (co) coda (-mol). A riff reminiscent of the finest glam rock.

Musically it is a hazy ipa. Visually it is a malt loaf with butter. It tries to convey the groups theatrical and somewhat konfusing live performance. It is an emotional tour de force covering the heights of sunny elation to the cold dark comedown.

An ode to the plight of the recreational cannabis user. The highs and lows of being a stoner.”
