AR Santiago releases visuals for new track “Crazy” in directorial debut!

Inspired by 90s R&B legend Jodeci, AR Santiago’s goal with this track was to give it an authentic 90’s R&B feel; and she did just that.

“I remember writing the song with my vocal producer/co-writer Bhess, and him not initially seeing the vision until AFTER I recorded the Chorus. I said to him, listen, I want to stack the vocals and do as many harmonies as possible (laughs). Hess thought I was nuts! but I knew what I heard in my head. Anyone who listens to Jodeci knows their hooks have a lot of layers and exaggerated vocals. I wanted to mirror that. “Crazy” final product sounds exactly how I heard it in my head”, says Santiago.

Another fact about the song “Crazy” is that it was co-written with rising rap sensation, Nick Grant.

“Crazy is my directorial debut. I came up with the video treatment. The videographer was actually my boyfriend at the time; which made for a more comfortable shoot bc it was natural for us to interact in that way. The vision for the video was to channel D’Angelo’s How Does It Feel; a major staple in RNB music”.

“D’Angelo was completely naked in the video. The video was very basic but, insanely sexy. I kept the concept exactly that; simple and sexy. I also wanted a VHS/vintage feel so we shot footage on my VHS camera and gave the overall video a VHS look”.

Her debut EP #ThrowbackThursday derived from wanting to take 90’s R&B classics and putting a modern day twist on them . She took some of the worlds biggest R&B hits from the 90’s and early 00’s to create the EP. Songs include: Crazy (Jodeci inspired) and Dream Girl (sampled with and inspired by Soul For Real’s Candy.)
