Lexie Liu Releases “Love and Run” Video

Lexie Liu is the biggest sweetheart in her latest music video, “Love and Run.” Directed by Ashley Armitage (Ladyist), the video pays homage to romantic 80s melodramas and it stars Lexie as its starry-eyed heroine who’s unrequited love evolves into a grand gesture. Produced by DENM, the dance-pop anthem is a fan-favorite from Lexie’s newest EP, 2030, and it pairs perfectly as the soundtrack to Lexie’s dreamy coming of age, love story. The video also has its share of fabulous fashion moments from Lexie that include a dazzling 16arlington purple gown and a pink marabou, sheer robe  reminiscent of Pretty in Pink.

On February 2nd, Lexie Liu debuted 2030, her first worldwide release, via 88rising. A collection of her musings from the past two years, 2030 is “an intimate journey where Lexie constructs and deconstructs herself, wrapping up her ambitions, regrets, and desires in trenchant verses juxtaposed with crooning vocals. It’s the perfect artistic mosaic of a debut: extracted from her Asian heritage, from classic literature, from her own whimsies, and flitting from nonchalant confidence to unwilling resignation over the course of its tracks.” (Clash) From modern day love songs like “Hat Trick,” to empowering numbers like “Mulan,” “her provocative sound is transcending language barriers,” (i-D) as well as redefining what it means to be a female artist not only in China, but worldwide. Produced primarily by Lexie Liu herself, alongside Bijan Amir (“Ric Flair Drip”) and a few others, the project is “a hypnotic blend of ambient tunes and woozy beats.” (Billboard) With over 10M total streams since its release, the success of 2030 further “proves Lexie’s status as China’s next global superstar.” (The Line of Best Fit) The videos for her singles, “Hat Trick,” “Nada, and “Sleep Away,” are over 6 million streams alone, with the latter named by The Fader as one of “10 Songs You Need in Your Life” and one of “Best Music Releases Of The Week” by Nylon.

Born and raised in Changsha, China, “Lexie Liu is poised to become the face of a generation of new Chinese artists breaking into the American mainstream with a uniquely, cross-cultural sound.” (V Magazine) Although she grew up mainly in a Chinese environment, her provocative English lyrics and awareness of youth culture have set her apart from her contemporaries. At the age of 18, she became the youngest Chinese musician to perform at SXSW in the United States. This promising trajectory along with Lexie Liu’s distinct appearance caught the attention of the fashion industry where she landed placements in Puma’s Suede 50 campaign, Levi’s New Years TVC campaign and an appearance at the “Volez, Voguez, Voyagez” Louis Vuitton 2018 Campaign exhibition in Shanghai. Lexie Liu has also been featured on the print pages of Asia’s most prominent fashion publications, including Vogue me (China), BAZAAR China, Nylon Japan and Nylon China.
