Who is Money Geek?

Born in Augusta Georgia, Terrence Wilson the creator of Money Geek Inc found that through trial and error many ways to utilize his talents to achieve his goals! In doing so, he realized that a vast majority of knowledge had stemmed from experience as well as self learning along with education giving a respectful understanding of the importance of mentors and role models and strived to inspire the youth. Coming from humble beginnings, it’s important in any culture to not only be given the tools to survive and prosper but to be shown how to utilize the tools.

“A Product of Positivity “ is the growth mindset platform in which Money Geek Inc was established on while reaching communities and changing mindsets to achieve the greatness that we all possess within ourselves expressing positivity! Money Geek means Mentally Over Negativity Elevating Youth Gaining Education Enriching Knowledge in which we hope to inspire with visuals and positive merchandise with a meaning! The goal is to change the narrative within rural communities and uplift a culture! Money Geek Inc feels everyone has a success story and this brand wants to be the reflection of everyone’s unique journey!

As you see yourself, who is Terrence Wilson:

When I look in the mirror, I see the growth of a man that came from humble beginnings from Augusta GA. Those humble beginnings have helped shape the course my life would take which consisted of trial and errors but through those molded me. I aim to make a difference not only to my family but have a positive impact on changing the world. A visionary entrepreneur that wears many hats because who wants to wear the same one every day right?

What brought you to the Apparel Industry and the development of the Money Geek Clothing Brand specifically?

Honestly I would say a vision and an idea! I can’t say that I grew up wanting to be in this industry but it sort of grabbed me with the idea and the meaning behind it. It struck me to the point that I couldn’t sleep until I got the idea out of my head and I immediately got up and wrote Money Geek out on paper. Once I had that the meaning flowed right behind it being Mentally Over Negativity Elevating Youth Gaining Education Enriching Knowledge. Just the idea and the meaning behind it gave me the drive to see this to fruition. My goal was based behind my strong belief that if we target the youth and even the minds of grown-ups we could positively affect permanently the outcome and direction of the youth. I wanted to change the perception of being “smart” as when you’re younger it seems frowned upon and sadly getting in trouble draws more attention. As an artist, I knew I could employ visibility from the following that I had garnished and utilized some marketing skills I had acquired.

What and who influenced the designs that you share with the world?

I would say that all of my design comes from my creative mind. An idea will come to me and I’ll have to work with the graphic designer to project the vision. My mind seems to be constantly thinking so once an idea comes to mind, I write it down right then so currently I have more ideas that I’ve yet to present!

What’s happened in your career that makes you feel that the apparel industry is for you?

I think back to the Soulja Boy interview and I use this in teachings of when he was asked why does he have so many businesses in which his response was “why don’t you have that many businesses”. Just that mindset alone is motivation as I feel like I can accomplish any form or art I choose to venture in. I still love music amongst other things and I still have a foot in the business but I consider this just one of the many ventures to come! I use a piece of everything I’ve learned with everything so now I’m utilizing some skill mindsets and mistakes made with furthering this venture!

What was the biggest obstacle in getting to your current phase of business with Money Geek?

I wouldn’t say that I’ve come to any obstacles that set me back per say but I will say that’s it’s a process that requires patience. Before my e-commerce official launch in Sep 2018, I had a lot of planning and preparation. I had to gather a lot of information before I could just put out a product so it took a lot of hours invested in getting the proper knowledge and even structure of my presentation. You really have to trust the process as they say most small businesses fail within a year so you have to push through with all you have and develop your niche. Only you have the answer to the why you’re doing what you’re doing and the vision to do it! Be bold and face your fears and show the world! Most times the biggest obstacle can be taking the first step in your direction but once you’ve taken it, take it with confidence even if you fall, fall forward!

What do you want people to get from your clothing and its designs?

I want people to get positive visual motivation! I want someone to start a question when they see one of my designs and that question turns into a conversation which ends with learning or being enlightened. I want people to feel proud in my apparel and perform in them to their full potential! I want not only the brand to stand for the person wearing it but the person wearing it to stand for the brand!

Tell us about your current clothing designs?

Ok, I have a lot so I’ll start with the flagship logo design which is Money Geek. Surprisingly I believe it was the meaning that drew people initially. Of course, the design helps as it has to be visibly appealing but when I was looking for brand ambassadors initially, 9 out of 10 were willing to help out just on the meaning alone. With many more, I would say that my Established Drip Collection has taken wings and done very well. Drip seems to be the “it” slang word for fashion or how you’re dressed so infusing that with my money based niche I developed Drip into meaning Deposits Revenue Income Profit with the tag line “Is Your Drip Established”? I want to look beyond what we look like and give some focus on financial literacy and generational wealth over expensive clothes. Because of the success of Established Drip, I went further in the collection with DripFax, with the tagline “It’s all about the Checks and Balances”! So much more to check out on my website so please go visit!!!

What do you feel has been your greatest achievement so far in the apparel industry?

I feel my greatest achievement has been from the moment the idea formed to having my first sale was an awesome and humbling feeling! Also to be able to service people all over the world with a vision you’ve created is indescribable! I’ve had music producers, artists, actors, actresses, business executives, kids graduating with high honors to even the everyday hard worker wearing my vision! Let’s also add to even be doing an interview regarding all of those things gives me pleasure and motivated purposed to keep working!

If you could collaborate with one designer, living or dead, who would it be and why?

I’m not sure of any designers but I wouldn’t mind working with some people like T.I Clifford Harris and what he’s done with Jason Geter and their A.K.O.O brand. I feel the same about Sean Puffy Combs and what he’s done with Sean John! I love the clothes and the business savvy of both gentlemen. In my eyes, both are greatly respected and I would love to work with both of them!

If you had to pick one design of yours, that really explains YOU, what would it be?

I would have to say the flagship MONEY GEEK ! Once in a verse, I said it in reference to being a smart hustler! You have to be able to grind smartly to excel in any aspect of getting money which you need to provide and survive so this requires you to have a vast knowledge of how to acquire what you need. This can come from high learning but yet not merely exclusive to a classroom. You have to seek knowledge! The knowledge you seek can bring you wealth for generations.

Last but not least, Hype wants to know .. What’s your craziest “Where they do that at? Moment

I would say dealing with the brand it was when I was in the Cadillac dealership getting my car worked on and when called to pay, this older lady took notice to a design I was wearing to responds can you believe the people that comes up with this stuff, it’s like the people who comes up with the super bowl commercials” She then asks did I come up with it as I told her yes and she’s so amazed that she calls all of her coworkers over and even people waiting were asking about the shirt. It was a testament of how I can reach different demographics beyond my own culture by the visuals! But I also thought that I’m not too sure about being compared to Super Bowl Commercials lol but I’m sure it’s a lot of creativity that goes into the production so I’ll take it! lol
