Album Review: Samurai Champs release ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’

With a huge amount of praise for their recent singles ‘Bae’ and ‘Poseidon, The Asian-Canadian duo Samurai Champsare back with their sensual RnB debut album ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’.  The album blends and heightens the world of poetic RnB and electrifying hip-hop, making ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’ one of the best new album releases from that genre.

Inspired by the sombre and passionate paths set out by artists like Drake and Frank Ocean, the duo, Merv xx Gotti and Jeah keep their vibe strictly between a softened and groove-laden aesthetic, making title track ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’ one of their more heartfelt tracks from their debut album. Speaking to us about their new release, the pair said “Like wine, all things get better with time. But time itself waits for no one. It’s our responsibility to shape the present in preparation for the future and it is also our responsibility to enjoy it while it lasts”.

Opening soulful track ‘Let Me Be Sad’ is one of those songs that make you want to get up and dance, despite the slightly sadder lyrics, the vibrant hip-hop beats and outstanding vocals changes the whole vibe. ‘Let Me Be Sad’ is one of those songs that has to be on repeat.

Popular single ‘Bae’ features on the ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’ album. ‘Bae’ is a positive interpretation of the first feeling you get when you’re falling in love with someone whether the relationship has good or bad moments. It expands on that explosive feeling you continuously feel at the beginning of a relationship. With an extremely raw blend of rhythm and melody, the refreshing and romantic track is very different from their last emotional single ‘Still Mine’. ‘Bae’ is the perfect ‘pick me up’ track to listen to when you’re feeling slightly low over current or past relationship problems.  The album highlights Samurai Champs talent extremely well, the duo’s compatibility on each track is exceptional. We can see why Samurai Champs are well liked.

‘Cabernet Sauvignon’ is out now.
