Meet Rising LA Spitter Mac P Dawg

Back Story – West Coast rising star Mac P Dawg’s music is limitless, as is his potential. Growing up in East Hollywood, Mac attended the same high school as Fenix Flexin of Shoreline Mafia. The two formed a friendship through their appreciation of music, which inspired Mac P Dawg to try his hand at rapping and release his first track “Half N Half” with Fenix in 2017. The song gained traction as a regional hit and earned him an opening slot on Shoreline Mafia’s OTX Tour. Once he hit the stage and heard fans singing along to every word, Mac P Dawg realized that music was his calling.

Between “Half N Half”, P Dawg’s feature on Dirt Rich’s “Money Walk”, and his new single“Let Me Know” with Shoreline’s de-facto leader, OhGeesy, all on the OTX label, the identity of his sound is clear. He details escapades of his West Coast lifestyle over ominous, nervous and tense production. The anthemic lyrics on the surface nearly cover up the anxious backing tracks of Mac P Dawg’s music, just like the rebellious nature of his songs mask the pains of a rough life. Mac P Dawg is aiming for a debut project in the summer of 2019, but as a true artist, he wants to craft his work to perfection and release a body of work that truly represents his journey. – The Machine Works / Atlantic Records

We got the chance to check in with the young lion for a quick intro…check it!

From the outside looking in, who is Mac P Dawg?!

I’m just a 23-year-old Hispanic based outta LA doing what I gotta do to support my family. I can’t do what I’m doing right now to get money forever so I gotta move on to something I’m more passionate about. I was always into music so that had to be my go to. Now I’m confident that this what I gotta do.

What brought you to the entertainment industry, music specifically?

I have always been in & out the studio growing up but never recorded till I was 19. Dropped my first song for fun with Fenix Flexin round 2016 and watched it go up so I knew this was some I had to take off with.

What do YOU get from music?

I get to speak and express myself about my day to day situations. I always wanted a song to be played in a strip club so I made that party/ass shaking song “Let Me Know” with my bro Ohgeesy.

For new listeners, what song of yours would you pick as an introduction to you as an artist?

I got a bunch of songs in the vault that I want to put together as a tape, I think that would be a great introduction to new listeners but for a song out right now I think “Breakdown” tells a lot about how I live as an artist.

Tell us a bit about your work and passions OUTSIDE of music…

Outside of music I’m really just another hustler tryna support his family. I gotta do whatever to help my peoples and be the man of the house so it’s kinda hard to balance making money and making music. But it’s getting easier cause I got support from everybody.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” aka WTF?! moment…

I got way too many crazy moments so I don’t wanna go outta pocket lol but one crazy moment I remember was being at the dawg house high off juice playing around with my 9 in the living room. My dumbass thought I had the clip empty so I pulled the trigger facing the floor & shot a hole. I was literally an inch away from shooting my foot & had gun powder all over my shoes. I guess that’s a wtf/dumbass moment lol.
