Rapper Silento Opens Up About Depression on ‘The Doctors’

In an exclusive interview with The Doctors, rapper Silento opens up about his life-long struggle with depression.

“I’ve been fighting demons my whole life” says the 21 year-old, who rose to fame with his single ‘Watch Me.’ “I’ve been depressed my whole life.”

Born with cocaine, heroin and multiple kinds of pills in his system, Silento experienced a violent upbringing before going to live with a relative. At 14 he was taking ADHD medications and sleeping pills, getting into fights at school and eventually ending up in juvenile detention before creating his hip hop alter ego Silento and recording ‘Watch Me,’ which blew up almost instantly.

Sadly his mental state didn’t improve. ‘Depression doesn’t leave you when you become famous, it just adds more pressure,” Silento recalls “I don’t know if I can truly be happy, I don’t know if these demons will ever go away.”

After years of struggling alone, Silento is speaking out with the hopes of helping others who are depressed. “It’s not just for me, it’s for my peers, for all the people in America that are going through depression, for all the kids who don’t get a chance to meet with anybody…they don’t know how to tell anybody, to get any help.”
