Modernage Presents The Music Video For “Sideways”

Shooting the music video in the abandoned village of Fung Hang (close to the Hong Kong Chinese border) made perfect sense for Brit-rock outfit Modernage, who began work on the single “Sideways” shortly before guitarist Xavier Alexander moved to Hong Kong, and the band went on hiatus.

Now re-engaged in a prolific long-distance creative relationship, singer Mario Giancarlo, guitarist Xavier Alexander, guitarist/keyboardist Garcia Freundt, bassist Izzy Silva, and drummer Alex de Renzis, have reignited the OG brit-rock Miami project. Back and better than ever the band are fresh of the release of their latest full-bodied Indie track “Sideways”. Along with the new single, the band have also delivered a haunting visual counterpart.

Shot in black and white on an old iPhone 5, the stark video highlights the juxtaposition of the beautiful foreign surroundings with its dilapidated state, a meditation on the depths of depression and reaching out to the spirit in a last ditch effort for healing. The music video mirrors the band’s duel connection to the two very distinct cities of Miami and Hong Kong.

The video depicts an overgrown abandoned village, predominantly starring a young woman wandering through the ruins of houses overcome by the nature that surrounds it. Perhaps utilizing this imagery as a metaphor for the human condition, the lyrics croon: “Years go by/I weather the storm/I have felt this rain wash away my thoughts.”
