Who Is Seth Hirsch?

Originating from Cincinnati, Ohio, rapper-songwriter Seth Hirsch first started gaining national attention in early 2019 with cosigns from acclaimed producers Nottz and Lex Luger. Following the trend of other breakout Ohio artists such as Kid Cudi, TwentyOnePilots and Trippie Redd, Seth’s music maintains a raw and honest perspective through a poetic point-of-view and genre-blending melodies.

Raised by his mother in a single parent environment, Seth found solace growing up through music and skateboarding. Influenced by iconic artists such as Radiohead and N.E.R.D, Seth studied the craft of songwriting by expressing his innermost thoughts and feelings. As his close friends and circle got caught up in the drug epidemic in southern Ohio, Seth relocated to New York City to further pursue music.

After catching the ear of 808 Mafia co-founder Lex Luger’s uncle in New York, Seth relocated to the cultural incubator of Virginia Beach to work on his debut EP Who is Seth Hirsch with various multiplatinum and GRAMMY-winning producers. He currently resides in Los Angeles and is gearing up to release his debut EP summer 2019.

The Hype Magazine got Seth to weigh in on a few things!

From the outside looking in, who is the artist Seth Hirsch?

I actually named my upcoming EP Who is Seth Hirsch for this exact reason, haha. But that’s a hard one to answer since I’m on the inside looking out. I just follow my heart, and I don’t care about being the ‘cool kid’ or being understood. I just do what I feel like I should do.

What brought you to the entertainment industry, music specifically?

As a kid I was always living in my imagination, it was more comforting to me than what was going on in real life. I guess I just always chased that feeling of security and it led me here. I also found inspiration and has a passion for movies, WWE and stuff like that. My family used to play different music around the house and I learned at an early age how much of a release music could be. Music specifically hits me deeply. It’s a tangible emotion you can just tap into wherever you go. I view my music as poetry, along with the ideas and the soundscapes that go with them.

How does music affect you and what do you get from laying your thoughts down on wax?

When I hear a song I see detailed scenes and colors in my head. It totally changes my mood and transports me into different realms.

When I can put my thoughts and ideas down on a record, and it moves people in the room, I get a high that no drug could ever touch. It’s like my existence and the way I feel becomes undeniable. I want to keep growing as an artist and trying new things.

Tell us about your current single with Snoop Dogg and what it means for you.

“Million Dollars” came together when I was working on my upcoming EP Who is Seth Hirsch in Virginia. I was working out of super producer, Nottz’s studio, and his team were working on the song. I got asked to get on the track and it was definitely a wakeup call for me of what was actually possible.

If you asked all the people in Ohio who watched me develop as an artist over the years, I’m probably the last person they would expect to have a banger with Snoop. But that’s why it’s so special to me, it’s really unexpected and our voices sound great together.

What are your thoughts on the Hip Hop musical landscape?

I’m into it for sure, Hip Hop has always been about having fun, telling stories, and I think right now there’s a lot of really sick stuff coming out. The concept of lyricism has evolved and people are being more experimental. It’s interesting to see how social media plays into it all too. It’s a great time for artists like me who just want to get as creative as possible.

Tell us a bit about your work and passions OUTSIDE of music…

I’ve been skateboarding for most of my life so, I like to skate whenever I get a chance. Also, I’m pretty into comedy and filmmaking so, I get involved in projects whenever I can. Tasting different foods, playing Smash Ultimate with my friends, just doing weird sh*t with people who like to laugh and goof off.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” aka WTF?! moment…

I was backpacking in Sri Lanka with 2 of my friends a few years ago. We went on this long ass bus ride during the height of summer and I had to sit by myself next to a bunch of cargo and stuff. It was insanely hot and the bus ride was like five hours long or something. We drove through these windy mountain roads and in Sri Lanka I guess the buses just drive on whatever side of the street they want when they’re going super-fast. Plus, there was this video of an Indian Led Zeppelin cover band on loop on the tv and the volume was way too loud. After every song the singer would let out this shrill villainous laugh. I thought I was going to piss my pants and die for sure. Somehow I left unharmed.
