Bobby Dee On The “Once Upon a Time in the LBC” Festival, Long Beach CA, Snoop Dogg & More

Since 1987, famed concert promoter Bobby Dee has been promoting and selling out concerts around the country; his early credits included New Kids On The Block and Eazy-E. In 2006, Bobby Dee created his banner company Bobby Dee Presents, also entering the world of EDM and reggaeton to produce shows with local and national artists. It wasn’t until recently that Bobby Dee Presents partnered with Snoop Doggs’ Uncle Snoops Army to produce festivals in large venues all over the United States.

The upcoming outdoor festival Once Upon A Time In The LBC is a high-profile collaboration between Snoop Dogg, Uncle Snoops Army and Bobby Dee Presents. The event sold out within 20 minutes of going on-sale to the public, leading to a second date being announced and quickly selling out. The 2-day festival is set for July 27th and 28th in Long Beach, California at Queen Mary Park, including headliners Snoop Dogg, Warren G, Bone Thugs N-Harmony, YG, The Game, DMX, Too Short, and Blueface. The festival is powered by AT&T, Mikes Hard Lemonade, and Michelob Ultra.

Also coming up for Snoop and Bobby Dee’s teams is The King Of The West, a 3-day festival in loving memory of Nipsey Hussle, at the top-ranked SAP center arena in San Jose. Headlining acts to perform on September 14th include Ice Cube, E-40, Snoop Dogg, Warren G, The Game, and Psycho Realm. More information on The King Of The West and other upcoming live concert events being produced by this forward-thinking crew can be found online at www.bobbydeepresents.com.

I had the pleasure of doing Q&A with Bobby Dee himself in June 2019 — just weeks prior to my July 2019 visit for the city’s acclaimed art-centric the POW! WOW! Long Beach festival — and highlights from that interview for The Hype Magazine are printed below for your reading pleasure.

Do you remember the first time you ever went to Long Beach?

Bobby Dee: I was 3 and my mom used to ride me on the back of her 10-speed. Those were the best times of my life.

Long Beach is the home of your upcoming festival with Snoop. How long was that in the planning stages for?

Bobby Dee: It has actually been something we always wanted to do and it clicked as a homage to the pioneers of the LBC Movement. I think it was just the right time, especially after the passing of Nipsey [Hussle]. It was the right time to represent for the west coast and its great talent.

Why Long Beach of all places for the festival? That it was Snoop’s hometown?

Bobby Dee: Yes, it is a tribute to Snoop Dogg, Warren G, and Dove Shack. Of all places, it had to be Long Beach, where he’s from.

What are some of your favorite spots for dining in Long Beach?

Bobby Dee: I absolutely love Long Beach Cafe and 777 Restaurant.

Is there a city anywhere that reminds you of Long Beach?

Bobby Dee: No. Long Beach is a world of its own! So much charisma and history — no other place like it.

This festival aside, what are you currently working on?

Bobby Dee: We are currently working on Snoop Fest and Kings of The West World Tour 2020. Headliners will be announced soon and I’m really excited about it. All updates will be posted on www.bobbydeepresents.com.

Is there a career accomplishment you are proudest of?

Bobby Dee: I’m most proud of partnering with Snoop Dogg, Fkoa, and Bobby Dee Presents.

Finally, Bobby, any last words for the kids?

Bobby Dee: Stay in school! I didn’t go to college, so I had to work 10 times harder. Don’t let anyone tell you can’t achieve your dreams. Life is not a race, make the best of it with what you love.
