Introducing Reuben James and his debut EP ‘Adore’

UK songwriter, artist and pianist Reuben James today shares his debut EP Adore. With production from a host of eclectic names including the GRAMMY Award winning Qmillion (Robert Glasper) and house wunderkind Karma Kid, the 6-track release sees the silky thread of Reuben’s vocals run through the project. Combining smooth, contemporary R&B sensibilities with free-flowing jazz instrumentation from guests Braxton Cook, Chris Dave, Keyon Harrold and Michael Mwenso, Adore is an impressive debut from the young artist.

Speaking of the release, Reuben says –

“Releasing Adore has been such an amazing adventure for me. I wanted this EP to be rich harmonically and fleshed-out with brass to give a real Jazz feel to these RnB songs. I loved getting to experiment with all of my favourite sounds and genres. I have spent so many years working with other people, developing their projects and being part of their visions, it has been huge for me to finally discover my own sound, step away from the piano and take more of a vocal role.. I have been blessed to work with some of my favourite musicians, producers and performers on this record and cannot thank Braxton, Keyon, Chris and Michael enough for featuring on my songs. The amazing Jay Mooncie, Karma Kid, Tom Ford, Reuben Fowler, Nick Littlemore and Qmillion were all vital to the incredible sound of the finished EP.”

Raised on an eclectic mix of hip-hop, jazz, gospel and classical music, Reuben’s confident, flowing approach belies his years, and is reflected in the genre defying approach to his musical direction. Plucked from the stage at the iconic London jazz venue Ronnie Scott’s and recruited to join Sam Smith’s band just 5 years ago, James has gone on to collaborate with Smith on his recent album as well as open for Kamasi Washington and Alicia Keys. Now focusing on developing and crafting his own unique sound, Reuben has recently been in the studio with artists including Disclosure, Col3trane, Honne, Tom Misch, Poppy Ajudha, Bruno Major and more.

Stay tuned for more from Reuben this year…
