Platinum Producer Khao Drops “Unified,” a New Single Featuring Both Rising and Legendary Rappers, Including Nipsey Hussle with a Poignant Lyric

Multi-Platinum, Grammy-nominated producer Khao set out to honor Bad Brains, the legendary all black, punk rock group from the late 1970’s by creating a Hip-Hop unification album. What he didn’t expect was that Hip-Hop icon and community leader Nipsey Hussle would be taken from this world just weeks after recording his part of the song, Unified, released on Saturday on all streaming services. The song is a powerful tribute to the West Coast rap scene and serves as a unifying voice in the community.

Khao refers to the upcoming album, Bad Brains Forever, as his ‘Quincy Jones project.’ The album features more than 60 of the hottest Hip-Hop and Rap artists in the industry, mixing new school with old school legends. In addition to Nipsey, Snoop Dogg, The Game, Mozzy, G Perico, and E-40 appear on the Unified track. Gangsta rap pioneer Ice-T emerged from a 20-year absence from music to participate in the tribute.

“I am excited for the world to hear Unified. I believe Nipsey Hussle’s verse will have a positive impact on the Hip-Hop and Crenshaw communities,” said Khao. “His voice was so profound. When people hear his lyrics, they will literally be in awe, because it’s so foretelling. Nipsey saw a lot of things coming.”

Khao is behind more than 35 million records sold and also the founder of a national non-profit for urban youth called Bridge DA Gap.

“Nipsey Hussle and I shared a mutual passion for uplifting inner city communities,” said Khao. “That’s why it’s important that his life and legacy live on. We both wanted something truly epic for the West Coast. Not only were we restoring this magical sound – but creating peace in the West Coast community by bringing the ‘Bloods’ and ‘Crips’ together and unifying people through music.”

A portion of the proceeds from the powerful song Unified will benefit Nipsey Hussle’s backyard in Crenshaw, by providing education resources through Khao’s Bridge DA Gap program.

At the height of his music producing days, Khao left the industry to create Bridge DA Gap, which provides solutions to at-risk youth through music, education and other resources. The program addresses issues such as poverty, low self-esteem, depression, the loss of loved ones and gang violence. Nipsey recently provided his support to the organization by sending video messages for the students.

Khao has also established KOOLriculum, a K-12 STEM curriculum that is used in schools across the country and has been proven to increase academic performance.  Recognizing Nipsey’s efforts to create jobs and opportunity through his co-working space and Vector 90 STEM Center in the Crenshaw District, Khao will leverage the success of Unified to support education programs in Crenshaw geared towards empowering members in Nipsey’s community.

The song Unified is currently available for download on all platforms and can be heard on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wcTtlMLyjY.
