Premiere: Pop Sensation Layke Releases Video for New Summer Smash ‘Friends for the Summer’

Fresh off the successful release of her charity inspired collaboration cover of “Happier” with Snoop Dogg as exclusively released on BILLBOARD, indie-pop sensation LAYKE debuted her new feel-good summer single “Friends for the Summer” on Friday, June 14.  The summer anthem and lead single off her upcoming EP, ‘Friends for the Summer’ celebrates the unexpected connections we make that lead to moments that last forever. The video to envisions Layke & her friends in an alternate neon universe, partying in the Hollywood hills at the end of the world. It is both somber & celebratory, a perfect analogy for Layke’s own story and evolution as an artist & an invitation into her personal rainbow-painted space.

About the Video Layke Says, “When we set out to shoot this video I really wanted it to be a happening, a vibe, a true coming together of friends having a party and having all the fun. And since all of my friends and I are so unique I thought why not make it a galactic rave for the end of the world. A neon rainbow space scape. Aurelie Davis and I creative and art directed the entire video together and we were really ecstatic about the way it turned out because it was really natural and felt really right. It was a moment in time I’ll never forget.”

More About Layke

As a diverse and evolving pansexual, queer individual, who grew up in conservative Texas, Layke has always identified herself as a round peg trying to fit into a square hole. Layke has been performing since she was a child, and the creative arts were a way for her to channel her sensitivity and energy into something constructive. In high school, Layke began singing backup in a punk-rock band, which evolved into writing songs. She had always been a poet in her own mind, keeping diaries since she was a child, but putting those words into music was a new concept. After graduating, she moved to Los Angeles to create her own art, her own world, not act out someone else’s.

Layke wants people to feel inspired by her art to create their own safe space in the world. She hopes people hear this album, watch her new music video and feel that they can be whoever they want to be, unapologetically and unabashedly.
