Trae Young, Katelyn Ohanshi and more at the ESPYS.

The Hype Magazine reporter and correspondent coverage of the 2019 ESPYS!

Here’s a download from my conversations with some of the most influential athletes.

Avery Landon

A very stylish Avery Landon appeared on the ESPY red carpet in a red and black pattern suit which, he helped design with his stylist. “ I wanted something red base, and I like flowers. Yeah, I had to be the flyest one here.” Avery spoke about his new leadership role for the Jets, where is coming off of a stellar first season with the team. “Last year was definitely a change coming from Tennessee, but I am adjusting to it a lot better.”

When asked what his responsibility was as a leader, Landon said, “Making sure I’m solid with the playbook, if I know what we’re doing on the field I’m a much better leader.”

Landon sent an affirmation out to the universe confirming that the Jets will definitely be in the playoffs this season. We’re watching Mr. Landon.

Katelyn Ohashi

Katelyn Ohasi energy on the red carpet was infectious, she even did a handstand in heels to exhibit her excitement for the festivities. Last year, Ohashi walked away from a decorated career as a gymnast and says it has helped her to share her self worth. “ I realized that this sport doesn’t define who I am.” “I’ve gained a lot of respect for myself.”

Trae Young

Q: You recently paid respect to LeMelo Ball, what did that mean for you?

Trae Young: “Yeah, just paying respect to my lil bro, he’s definitely been putting in a lot of work over the years. I mean he’s about to go overseas and play in Australia and do big things so, I’m looking forward to seeing what he does. Umm, like I said, he’s definitely up next. He’s going to be playing in the league some day.”

Q: You had a phenomenal start to your professional career, what are your expectations this year?

Trae Young: “I don’t necessarily set a bar or certain expectations on my season, I feel like we gotta continue to get better, the way I played and the way my teammates played this year we just got better throughout the season. If we continue on that path, I mean playoffs and helping winning some championships here soon.”

Q: How do you stay balanced?

Trae Young: “Just sticking to my roots and my family. The things that are important to me and my family.”

Landry Shamet
During my brief conversation with, Landry, he proclaimed the dominance of the Clippers and said he “would take his group guys over anyone else.” Shamet, plays at the point guard position for the newly reformed Los Angeles, Clippers. “I’m most excited about pushing myself out of my comfort zone. All the heightened expectations is going to be good for me to grow. We’re going to be playing in a market where we’re under a microscope.”

Q: How do you keep you mentally strong?
Landry Shamet: “It’s important to stay grounded and know where you come from and have a good circle around the right people around you that you trust.”
