Who is Oral James?
Born Oral James Franklin in Baton Rouge, La., The artist goes by Oral James on stage, but known in the streets as “Duke”. The artist first found his love for music when he was around 6 years old after going to church with his grandmother. His first musical passion was singing. Now fast forward 30 years, Oral James has reinvented himself as A Hip Hop artist, or As he would put it, A Rhythm and Rap Artist. He recently formed “JrBoy’s Entertainment, LLC”, his own record label named after his son. The Artist as Recent as June 28, 2019 Released his first mixtape Titled “Surviving Surgery”. Some might say that there are some big things on the horizon for the artist Name, Oral James, We’ll just wait and see if they’re right.
The Hype Magazine caught up with Oral James to get him weigh in on a few things!
From the outside looking in, who is the artist and the man, “Oral James?”
I would love to say a street nigga, but I’m not. Been there, Done That. I’m a Hard working man, A Musician, and A Father.
What brought you to the Music Entertainment Industry?
Aside from Always having A Passion for Music, It was the opportunities That Independent artists have these days.
Tell us about your current project, and what It means to you overall?
It means freedom, A way to express how I feel about life. I named it “Surviving Surgery” because I battled keloids on my ear for nearly 20 years, and I felt like the doctors were just taking my money.
When you truly want to be inspired, who are some of the artist’ that are on your playlist?
Lil Wayne, Kevin Gates, Phil Collins, HOV, Rick Ross, The Foreigners, Michael Jackson, and Prince. But to be Honest, I inspire myself.
For new listeners, what song of yours would you pick as an introduction to you as an artist?
I’d say, “I Don’t Want It” because it represents freedom for me, However, “What’s His Name” represents my current state of mind. So, either of those two.
What are some of your passions OUTSIDE of music grind?
18 Wheelers, I currently Drive one. My 1 year old Son, which I actually should’ve said first. I’m passionate about becoming A better Man, and Someday A Great Husband.
Last but not least, HYPE wants to know… What’s on the horizon for “Oral James”?
Only The Lord knows. Hopefully lots of Prayers, including mine, asking for Blessings and Favor to be A success in all that I ask for. I have faith, Determination, and Works. The rest is up to “THE ALMIGHTY”.
