Who Is Rico Savage?
Back Story – Born and raised in the south side of Milwaukee, Puerto Rican artist Rico Savage was a first-generation college student, graduating from the University of Wisconsin Madison. In the last year of college, he chose to pursue a music career. Using the influences of childhood experiences such as foster care, Rico has been able to turn negative experiences into positive outcomes and perspectives. In just the first year of music creation, Rico created 14 tracks, 7 music videos, and toured the states, opening for acts such as Twists, Afroman, Young Gravy, and Joyner Lucas. He then went on to be featured in Scrilla Guerilla Magazine and trended as #3 top video on Amazon Firestick Scrilla Guerilla channel. In addition to the creation of music, Rico has developed a team that will be opening Madison’s first underground Hip Hop club.
From the outside looking in, who is the artist and the man “Rico Savage”?
Rico Savage as an artist is a combination of book and street smarts. I grew up in the south side of Milwaukee and have also been in the foster care system. I’ve seen a lot of the streets and that has molded me into the person I am today. I always have strived to be the smartest in my class. Combining my knowledge of both the educational and street worlds, I have been able to elevate street rap and bring a whole new life to hip hop.
Rico as a man is a young entrepreneur and mogul in the making. Following the success stories of Icons such as P. Diddy, 50 Cent, and Jay Z, I have formed a deeper understanding of the steps that need to be taken to ensure a successful future.
What brought you to the music entertainment industry?
I never thought I would turn music into a career. It started off as a hobby, messing around with friends just freestylin, ultimately leading me to create my first track with the support of family and friends urging me to pursue music.
How does music affect you and what do you get from laying your thoughts down on wax?
I use music as a release… an escape from the harsh conditions of the real world. For me, it is an act of self-expression, a release that unburdens my mind and lifts the weight from my shoulders. After experiencing the process of music creation I have not been able to stay away.
Tell us about your current project and what it means to you overall?
The next project to be released is a 4 track EP. The projected release date is mid-August. It’s a fun, high energy EP that will bring life to any party. This project was a release for myself. Reigniting the spark of my passion for music. In this next project, I execute different flows, rhythms, and sounds, bringing a whole new light to the way artists should be able to adapt to the many styles of hip hop.
When you truly want to be inspired, who are some of the artists’ that are on your playlist?
Old school icons such as Diddy, 50, Jay Z, Biggie, DMX, and Eminem.

What are some of your passions OUTSIDE of your daily music grind?
My dream is to open my own club. I love to host parties and musical events. It brings me life to watch people having a good time.
I also like to participate in anything that spikes the adrenaline. Jet Skiing, wakeboarding, roller coasters, etc.
I am big on traveling. I spent the entirety of 2017 traveling the states going from San Francisco to San Diego all the way to New York down to Miami.
Last but not least, HYPE wants to know… What’s on the horizon for Rico Savage?
Besides creating music, I am currently working towards opening a Hip Hop Club Venue here in Madison. The club is expected to be up and running early 2020. Once that project has been accomplished the music will begin to flow and content will be released very frequently.
