Why You Should Have a Professional Biography
I’ve said this over and over again becoming a successful rapper is more than just creating good music. The marketing and business side of becoming a successful music artist are just as important, which is why we’re going to talk about having a biography. What Is An Artist Biography? An artist biography includes detailed information about your work …
Going back as early as when budding rappers and entrepreneurs were selling cassette tapes and CDs from the trunks of their cars, having an artist biography is more than just a bunch of paragraphs. It’s a tool that can be used to help you push your music career further. You should have an artist biography because it can help improve your branding and make you look more professional, it allows your fans to get a deeper look at who you are and get to know you better, it helps you separate yourself from other artists who do not have a biography, and it can help you secure placements with different platforms and companies.
It’s easy to look at a few upcoming hip-hop artists that became popular fast and think ‘If they didn’t have one, why do I need one?’. Most artists that become popular quickly are unprepared, unorganized, and are usually unable to sustain their careers.
A lot of us think putting business first taints the energy of the music, but business is what allows the music to flow. You just need to protect your interests, learn your rights and negotiate what you’re worth. The moment you take your eye off the ball, someone else will take the ball from you.
If you feel like your writing skills are professional enough to write a good artist biography, go for it. If not, you’re going to want to hire a professional writer to write it for you. There are pro’s and con’s to both choices, but in most cases, you’re going to make your decision based on 2 things – time or money.
Here’s what I recommend based on if you have time, money, neither, or both:
- No Time + No Money = Change your life. You won’t become successful without time or money
- No Time + Money = Hire someone to write it for you
- Time + No Money = Learn how to write it professionally yourself
- Time + Money = Hire someone to write it for you.
Make TIME.. You’re worth the Investment.
