0A-MAN, Inc. STEM Int’l. Science Center to Host Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Celebration, Engineering Day and Dinner Honoring Laser Scientist/Prof. Hildreth “Hal” Walker
A-MAN, Inc. STEM International Science Center will host the Apollo 11’s 50th Anniversary Celebration and Engineering Day, 3 PM on Sunday, September 29, 2019 at Holman UMC White Hall, 3320 W. Adams Blvd. Toni Guinyard, KNBC’s Los Angeles Reporter will be the Mistress of Ceremonies at the dinner staring @ 5 PM. A Silent Auction will be available from 3 -6 PM. Students K-12 and College is FREE!
Laser Scientist Hildreth (Hal) Walker, Jr. played a key role in the Apollo 11 Mission.
50 years ago, Walker was the first person to successfully fire the laser to the moon during the Apollo 11 Moon Landing Mission and led the manufacturing, testing and operation of the KORAD K-1500 ruby laser system for the Korad Laser Company. In 1969 during the Apollo 11 Moon Landing, the Lunar Laser Ranging Experiment was the only interactive planetary experiment that took place for the first Moon Landing Mission.
The event will begin with Registration, Silent Auction and the Red Carpet Recognition. A highlight will be the Reunion and introduction of former A-MAN, Inc. STEM Young Ladies Achievers and Male Achievers. STEM exhibits will be on display and Prof. Hal will show actual films of this historical trip, photos taken on the Moon surface, the Lunar Laser Ranging Experiment along with discussions and future plans for Moon exploration and how underserved students can prepare to participate.
On display will be the Photograph of Walker’s K1500 Ruby Laser that was replicated in 1994, replicated in 1994, in an interactive exhibit located in the Hands-on Science section of Science in American Life at the National Smithsonian Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. Walker was also honored in the exhibit’s permanent section, “The New Moon.”
After the engineering Day activities, KNBC’s Reporter Toni Guinyard will be the Mistress of Ceremonies at the Celebration Dinner, where Hal Walker will be honored and deliver the keynote speech.
