Interview with Christa Campbell & Lati Grobman, Producers Behind “Angel Has Fallen” and “Rambo: Last Blood”

The phrase of 2019 that seemed to be on everyone’s lips was #HotGirlSummer during this season.  It was a term that women were taking and making it empowering statement, albeit a movement.  Here are two women who have taken that phrase and scorched the season with a star studded movie, Angel Has Fallen, opening at number one at the box office, leading us straight into fall with the highly anticipated Rambo 5: Last Blood.

Campbell Grobman Films is a production company owned and operated by Christa Campbell and Lati Grobman.  This dynamic duo is the force behind movies that literally flex masculinity across the big screens.  Does this deter these ladies from giving their opinions behind the lens?  That’s a resounding- Hell No!  They embrace the genre and challenges that come with producing movies associated with blood, sweat, and grit. The Hype Magazine asked Christa and Lati the process behind choosing which scripts to undertake!

Congrats on Angel Has Fallen debuting at #1 in the box office. Did you know you had a hit on you hands?

Christa:  You never know exactly what a film is going to garner, but we read the script and followed the previous installments, so instinctively we knew this was going to be very good.

What were the biggest challenges in making a blockbuster like Angel Has Fallen?

Christa:  First, it’s about getting the right director.   When it’s a franchise, as such, you already have a stellar cast.  It’s easier when the previous films have been a success.

Lati:   Having said that, you never know.  You can have a great cast, a great script, but if things don’t align… you can still have a flop.

Are you ladies strictly into the action genre, or would you venture out?

Lati:  Not all.  We are very diverse.  I personally have a passion for documentaries which we have produced. We have also done work in the horror genre. Our first film together was actually Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Christa:  Texas Chainsaw Massacre  was our first number one at the box office and now Angel Has Fallen.  We started the company in 2011 and have no plans of slowing down.

Speaking of Franchises, Rambo 5: Last Blood is slated to hit theaters on September 20th, starring Sylvester Stallone.  Are you nervous about the reception this installment will receive?

Lati:  When you have a star such as Mr. Stallone that is synonymous with the film’s namesake, you just have to sit back and let him do his magic.  He’s one of the biggest stars in the world! He got there by giving 100%. I also think audiences love pure action films and are craving it and that’s what this is. We are so excited for audiences to see it.

Any advice for women who want to get into action, horror, or just filmmaking in general?

Christa:  Stay true to what you love.  Don’t jump into something because it’s trendy.  You have to be into what it is you are doing. I love cars, adventure, horror…typical “boys club” projects but it’s what I’m passionate about.

Lati:  Surround yourself with people who you mesh with you and support your ideas.  That’s my advice to women or anyone in general.
