Keely Ferguson: The Essential Element

Keely Ferguson is a musical powerhouse that has been showcasing her talents since the tender age of 5. Starting with classical vocal, piano, acting and ballet lessons; Keely fell in love with the performing arts and dedicated her life to becoming a full-fledged artist. Keely’s breakout song ‘Lovestory’ featured on Big Sean’s “Finally Famous Vol. 1” mixtape garnered the attention of industry names like Kanye West & future collaborators like Eminem, Slaughterhouse, Royce Da 5’9” & Mr. Porter of D12. With over 1 million+ streams behind her collaborations “Lovestory”; Keely’s track would go on to be an underground classic that defined an important moment for the young artists. After countless nights in the studio creating with Big Sean, Keely was blessed with the opportunity to perform alongside Mike Posner and other upcoming artists.

Opening for recording artists such as Monica, Keyshia Cole, Musiq Soulchild, Teyona Taylor, Day26, Adrian Marcel and BJ the Chicago Kid; Keely obtains nationwide gain; earning her spot in her first world tour as a background singer for Demi Lovato. Gathering from her continuous success, Keely dropped her debut album “The Elmnt” executive produced by Dre Butterz. Traveling through soft and experimental RnB tones and harmonies, Keely goes through the essential elements of self-discovery within oneself. Lessons centering around self-determination, womanhood and the music industry can be noted throughout this sultry artist.

The Hype Magazine decided to chat with Keely and gain in-depth details about this uprising artist.

Hype: What do you want people to get from your music? My music is a form of self-empowerment for me, its a feeling id like to share across the world! Sometimes it means facing harsh realities and in other moments its a pure escape into love and fantasy.

Hype: When did your love for songwriting begin?

Keely: I specifically recall the day in 4th grade when I found my mothers songbook. My parents, musicians, and songwriters from Motown, made a full impact on my guilty pleasures. I found myself revising the blueprint that had been laid out for me. I felt so strongly about it I remember using the bathroom pass the next days to finish rewriting the pages in my new songbook. Lol, Rude I know but a sure sign of what I was destined to be.

Hype: Who supported you the most through the high’s and lows on your journey as an artist?

Keely: My family has supported me from the day I arrived on this earth and I’m sure they will be there even after the day I crossover. I’ve had tons of friends and support, in and outside of my city, but nothing quite matches the hype from my parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. I’m an only child so my family surrounding me with love held an irreplaceable space in my heart. Its the way families should be able to depend on one another. We all ride for each other no matter what!

Hype: What has been your biggest collaborations thus far?

Keely: I’ve had some pretty impactful moments from touring with Demi Lovato and working under Eminem and DeNaun Porter but Big Sean is the big bro and has had the biggest effect on my career. It was, in fact, the true start! My first recorded song picked up to be one of Sean’s first fan favorites.

Hype: Who is your dream collaborating artist alive or dead?

Keely: I always dreamed of working with Prince before he passed but these days Id appreciate working with someone who would bring out more creativity from me as an artist, producer and songwriter. Off-top I think of collaborating with T-Pain, Pharrell or creating in a room with The DREAM.

Hype: What do you feel has been your greatest life achievement so far?

Keely: In my opinion, my greatest achievement has been finding my own voice and never wavering once I found it.

Hype: Can we expect more upcoming projects from you soon?

Keely: Absolutely, October 19, 2019! In the midwest we celebrate an extra day for love, we call it sweetest day. I’ll be pledging my token of love and releasing my second EP “DreamQueen” another moment of nostalgia and fantasy.
