Teen Sensation Anna Cole Aims to Replicate Dua Lipa Success
Perhaps only in the music industry can you have an artist who is only 13 be accepted as readily as one in their 30’s – even teenage film stars are viewed with some suspicion. Anna Cole, you’ll be surprised to learn after that intro, has indeed just entered the jungle of teenage maelstrom, though it defies belief that someone so young can have a voice so powerful and a presence so assured. Based in North Carolina (better known for its folk music and Link Wray generally speaking) Anna has already been recording and performing for two years, launching her career on the day of a total solar eclipse – whether this proves to be coincidence or one of the most inspired visual starting pistols remains to be seen but she has certainly hit the ground running.
Already having achieved worldwide radio airplay with the single Runaway, an issue-led track about teen bullying, her latest track, No Regrets is on much more familiar ground – “Put your arms around my neck/feel my heartbeat in my chest” – it’s not about a medical check-up! It actually feels far more natural for someone like Anna Cole to sing a track like this than her elders, after all, if a teenager can’t sing about the frustrations of relationships, who can! With the hands of Austin Leeds (Avicii; Paul van Dyk) on the production and mixing side of things, this is top-drawer pop and looks ahead to a career some of her heroes (think Dua Lipa; Pixie Lott; Clean Bandit) are already enjoying.
