ASA Returns With New Album ‘Lucid’

Following a four-year break, Asa returns with her fourth studio album, ‘Lucid’.

Documenting her 12-year journey since her debut release, 14-track ‘Lucid’, sees the next stage of Asa’s artistry come to life through her amplified smokey tones fused with indie pop, jazz and soft-soul. Taking cues from cross-continental greats– from Fela Kuti to Miriam Makeba; King Sunny Adé to Sade; Tina Turner to Lenny Kravitz, Asa’s fourth album is a continuation of the music that fans fell in love with from the start.

Powerful opener, ‘Murder in the USA’ sets the vocal tone for the album, with Asa varying in tempo from track to track, from slow ballard ‘Torn’, to more upbeat instrumentation heard in ‘You and Me’ and reggae-filled ‘Until We Try (This Lo)’.

Transcending languages, Asa’s songs cross between English, French and Yoruba, feeding into her international presence, as reflected in her upcoming tour dates which see her play multiple shows across Europe including Switzerland, Germany and France.

Emerging with a self titled album in 2007 and lead single, ‘Fire On The Mountain’, Asa launched to much critical acclaim, receiving airplay on radio stations throughout Europe. She issued ‘Live in Paris’ in 2009 before the proper follow-up album, 2010\’s ‘Beautiful Imperfection’, which reached number 14 in France and saw her nominated for a Victoires de la Musique award for Female Artist of the Year. Working for a third time with producer Benjamin Constant, Asa\’s next studio album, ‘Bed of Stone’, arrived in 2014. It peaked at number 38 in France, and also charted in Switzerland.

Born to Nigerian parents in Paris, Asa moved to Lagos with her family in her early years. Surrounded by the sounds of their record collection spanning from Aretha Franklin, Bob Marley to Nina Simone, Asa’s early influences can be clearly heard in her lustrous songs.

Out Now, ‘Lucid’ cements Asa’s presence on the international scene and is available to stream and on Vinyl.
