Live Session With the Creator of BET Networks’ New Original Series BIGGER, Felischa Marye
Back Story – BET Networks recently announced the launch of its newest original series, BIGGER, a comedy created, written and co-produced by Hollywood’s newest female television writer, Felischa Marye. Behind the camera, Marye is in good company alongside executive producer Will Packer, one of Hollywood’s most successful filmmakers, and Showrunner Devon Sheppard, who boasts a decorated list of credentials including BET’s Weeds, Being Mary Jane, MadTV, Everybody Hates Chris and many more.
BIGGER is a colorful comedy that takes a deep dive into the life of an East Atlanta single-black-woman, dealing with the threat of marriage to a boring-in-bed boyfriend and the recent loss of a college acquaintance. Dealing with these events along with the other ups and downs of life, force her and her group of ambitious friends in their mid-30’s to ask themselves – is there something bigger and better in life.
“Watching ‘BIGGER’ come to life is a dream come true,” said Felischa Marye, creator, and co-executive producer. “I started dreaming about changing my life in my mid-thirties and found something bigger and better in this second career as a writer. I’m grateful to have the opportunity to explore what I think is common for many at that age – questioning your life while aspiring to live your best one.”
Marye, born and raised in Chicago, left her successful career as a vice president in PR/marketing, moving to Los Angeles to attend ULCA’s prestigious MFA in screenwriting program. While still in film school, she started her career when she sold her first comedy pilot to HBO. She was later staffed on the hit Netflix series 13 Reasons Why for two seasons, just completing the third season, released on August 23rd 2019.
Premiering this fall on the BET’s new streaming service, BET+, BIGGER dons a talented group of up-and-coming actors including Tanisha Long, Angell Conwell, Rasheda Crockett, Chase Anthony, and Tristen Winger.
The Hype Magazine caught up with Felischa Marye to get a bit more insight into her journey, what motivated her to start a TOTALLY new movement for herself and how she sees the landscape within Hollywood as more people of color come to the forefront. Tune In!
