Spragga Benz’s Chiliagon Debuts at #1 on Billboard Reggae Albums Chart

Makes GRAMMYTM Museum Experience Prudential Center Spotlight Series History

Spragga Benz’s sixth studio album, CHILIAGON, has debuted at #1 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart for week of October 12. Released via Easy Star Records/Buttercuts Records/Red Square Productions, CHILIAGON marks the dancehall icon’s first #1 debut and his second Top Ten on the chart.

Hailed as “not only a celebration of culture, music and legacy but a musical lesson of roots and riddims” by Urban House Music, CHILIAGON is Spragga’s first album in nearly a decade and according to the New York Daily News, “Benz does not disappoint.”

Produced by Spragga, Andrew Oury, Paul Fowler, and GRAMMY® nominated producer Cristy Barber, CHILIAGON melds his formidable delivery with some of the top UK producers and artists working today. The album blends roots, riddim, drum and bass, garage, grime and hip hop into a diverse kaleidoscope of infectious beats.

Highlight tracks include “Differ Remix” featuring Sean Paul, Agent Sasco, and Chi Ching Ching and produced by Toddla T (Watch HERE); “If Yuh Ready,” featuring the trademark chops of General Levy (Watch HERE); “Wicked Love”, also produced by Toddla T (Listen HERE), and the recently released “Believe” featuring Tanika(Listen HERE).

Speaking on his chart success, Spragga Benz reflects: “Having the opportunity to work with so many talented artists and producers on Chiliagon was what made this project special for me, so debuting at #1 is a blessing. It is thanks to the hard work of my team and the support of the fans.”

“We are proud to have helped Spragga get to #1 for the first time in his career,” says Easy Star Co-Founder, Lem Oppenheimer. “What this shows us is that Spragga is still a vibrant artist, a current creative force, and an important voice in reggae worldwide.”

Earlier this month Spragga made history as the first dancehall/reggae act to be featured in the Spotlight Series at the GRAMMYTM Museum Experience Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. Mark Conklin, director of artists relation and programming, GRAMMYTM Museum Experience Prudential Center, told Billboard Magazine “he’s an icon and was a great fit as our first dancehall/reggae artist.” (Read Full Story HERE)

Kingston-born Spragga Benz rose to prominence in the early ‘90s with a number of underground hits that would help define the Dancehall genre. His Jamaican success led to a major label deal and diverse crossover collaborations including game-changing parings with KRS-One, Wyclef Jean, Foxy Brown, Pras, Stephen Marley and Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley. Spragga’s appearance in the cult-classic Jamaican gangster film Shottas further elevated his reputation as an iconic presence who mindfully represented the entire reggae culture.
