The Hype Magazine Exclusive: Mickie James First Female to Receive The Thrope Sports Award

We are proud to announce that NAMA will be awarding Mickie the Thorpe Sports Award this year for her outstanding achievements as a professional wrestler in Sports.

Mickie will be the first female to receive this award. Previous recipients include Notah Begaye, Billy Mills, and the Iroquois Nationals. The Jim Thorpe Sports Awards was created with Jim’s daughter Grace Thorpe at the 2nd Annual Native American Music Awards to honor outstanding achievements by Native American athletes.

Jim Thorpe or James Francis Thorpe was an American athlete and Olympic gold medalist. A member of the Sac and Fox Nation, Thorpe became the first Native American to win a gold medal for the United States.
