THORNHILL Unveil Staggering New Single + Video “WHERE WE GO WHEN WE DIE”

As anticipation for the release of Thornhill’s heavily-anticipated debut full-length continues to climb, the five-piece have lifted the lid on their next audio-visual assault in the form of “Where We Go When We Die.” The second single to be taken from The Dark Pool, the track explores humans’ relationship with the earth.

It follows lead single “Nurture” jumping out of the gate into triple j rotation, as well as the band’s hometown album launch show tipping sold out over two months in advance. Appeasing the masses on the touring front with this announce, Thornhill are also revealing additional headline tour dates in Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide for November. More details below.

This song is not purely about whether religions and idols are real, or if there is anything after death, but more the fact that we try to fast track our lives to get to that ‘paradise’ more than we spend realising that we live in it,” explains Thornhill vocalist Jacob Charlton. “It’s more about killing our paradise (earth) now with hopes of finding another one or just shrugging it off to let future generations solve when it could truly become unsolvable.

While the two tracks don’t necessarily tie in lyrically, the “Where we Go When We Die” video concept is a direct follow up to the previously released “Nurture” video. Jacob, who had a hands-on role in conceptualising and directing the piece to life, explains that the concept spawned from his fascination with the idea of an apocalypse.

I love all of that end-of-the-world stuff and I love horror movies, so this is just building on my love for that. I began to show that side in the ‘Reptile’ video, but this is a bit more emotional I think. Ever since ‘Reptile’ my love for directing has grown as well, and I’ve wanted to continue to do it myself and gain more experience in writing scripts and characters in relation to what a song represents.

He adds that “Where We Go When We Die” always felt like the perfect track to single out for a music video.

I think the song itself acts as a bit of a movie, it goes for 5 and-a-half minutes and has ups and downs and goes in all different places. It’s a real journey of a song and I think that’s what is expressed in the music video,” he says. “When I heard the song in full I knew it had to be a music video because I could already see this happening and that happening with that certain hit or this part and so on, so I knew it would translate well.

Since emerging in 2016, Thornhill have made a playground of the Australian heavy sphere, earmarking themselves as one of the country’s most refreshing and unrelenting emerging acts. Having stretched their touring muscles alongside the likes of Northlane, Architects, Parkway Drive, In Hearts Wake and Polaris and impressed with releases including their 2018 EP Butterfly and single “Coven,” the clever and colourful The Dark Pool promises to be a breakout for Thornhill.

The band will celebrate the album’s release with a string of national headline tour dates throughout November, with tickets available HERE. Thornhill will also join US metalcore giants Wage War on their European run in January.

The Dark Pool will be released on October 25th via UNFD, and is available for pre-order now at unfd.lnk.to/TheDarkPool.
