Canadian Alt Rock Sextet Take The UK By Storm
Having just completed a UK tour, including a 3-night residency at legendary London venue The Troubadour, The Broken Islands return home ahead of the release of their new album ‘Masquerade’ in January 2020. With elements of ambient pop, shoegaze, post-rock, post-punk, trip-hop and darkwave, The Broken Islands create their own distinct sound that is sure to enchant the listener.
In 2017 the band released their debut album ‘Wars’, an album which exhibits both electrifying and ambient elements that the sextet produces with their sound. You can stream the debut album ‘Wars’ on Spotify now:
This album has been followed up with a single in 2019, ‘Solid State’, a song which cultivates much excitement for the new album release with a truly transcendent sound, especially with the haunting vocals from lead singer Rachelle Boily. The emotional and powerful mood that the track creates is encapsulated stunningly in the music video for the track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YadF0O2AK6o
The Broken Islands on their musical style and what makes them unique:
“We are all multi-instrumentalists and one of the great things about being in a six-piece band is the ability to switch instruments and play different things on different songs to really makes things exciting. We love to add percussion to songs so a set of free hands usually gets a chance to pick something up and add a new sound to a track. We all have wildly varied musical references, which we believe is what makes The Broken Islands sound the way it does. It’s really great to gain insight into someone else’s perspective of a song that you might not have heard before.”
