Chey Rose Unveils a New Era of Emotional Vulnerability in Nostalgic New Single ‘Golden Days’

Taking a drastic 180 from her light-hearted, summer pop anthem, V.C.R., Chey Rose taps into a deeper emotional vulnerability in her brand new single, Golden Days, an experimental pop/r&b tune that reminisces on childhood and young love. Throughout this bittersweet tale of growing up, Chey’s raw, intimate vocal slowly builds into a passionate cry yearning for the precious things that are lost in the journey to adulthood: carefree innocence, reckless love, and untainted, child-like wonder. Airy synths, rich bass and haunting vocal effects give Golden Days an ethereal, melancholy tone comparable to Nina Nesbitt’s These are the Moments I’m Missing and Emily Weisband’s Identity Crisis. The song is available on iTunes, Spotify and all digital retailers Friday, Nov 8, 2019.

Golden Days, cowritten with Nashville talent Shir Czopp, is a new more personal style of writing Chey has been delving into. The verses are descriptive and wordy, utilizing the story-telling technique of the singer-songwriter genre; however, the melodies, production, and chorus structure pull from pop/r&b influences. The result: a unique niche sound that’s fresh, heartfelt and most importantly real.

Chey explains, “This song came from such a vulnerable place. I was going through a really hard time, struggling with missing my family and growing up, and writing this really took me back to my roots. When it was finished it felt so authentically me that I knew I had to release it myself, I could never pitch it to another artist.”

At its core, Golden Days is about memories and longing for the past. “Growing up is hard. Change is hard,” Chey says. “It can be good, but it’s still hard. So, whether it’s missing a person, a place, an emotion or a past self, I want this song to be a comfort to anyone experiencing those feelings of loss. I really hope it’s a home to people who may be missing their own.”
