Eddie Griffin Live at the SLS in Las Vegas- Show Review

Veteran comedian, Eddie Griffin, who I think can be described as Richard Pryor meets Bill Cosby with the ability to play the dozens better Robin Harris performs in a unique show at the Sahara Las Vegas Monday-Wednesday in Las Vegas for an 8pm show. I went on a Tuesday. I happened to be driving down Las Vegas boulevard and see the huge sign on the side of the SLS Casino and quickly booked my ticket up in the front row. Eddie Griffin has been in television and film since the early 90’s starring in hit films such as; Meteor Man, House Party 3, Foolish, Deuce Biggalow, Norbit, and many others. He has also had hit television show starring, Malcom & Eddie. Comedy Central had him ranked at 62 in the top 100 stand up comedians of all time but I think that is personally it’s too low because after what I have seen on several occasions has definitely deserved to be in the top 15 discussion.

In a blue lit room with television mounted to the stage wall playing highlights of Eddie’s career the room began to fill up. My seat was in the front and Im just starring at the numerous shows playing on the board as the staff comes around and taking drink orders and then show started. Eddie’s show is uncensored and not for the politically correct and if they are brave enough then they are either going to learn to laugh or get their feelings hurt. Once Eddie is on stage it’s no hold barred comedy, but everyone in the crowd from beginning to end was keeled over gasping for air. Eddie Griffin is know for his unadulterated opinions on every subject that he speaks on and Eddie’s jokes cover current topics, religion, race, politics, and what ever seems to be on his mind.

It is to be told that Eddie Griffin has never written a joke or performed the same comedy routine twice, and for a man to have been performing for over 30 years it seems like an impossible feat. I ranted about the show to my friend and he was upset I didn’t tell him I was going so we went back the second night for the Wednesday show. Two days in a row and two amazing shows, but if there had been another show for the week I would have been there as well. Eddie Griffin is a premier comic and never has an off night, and if you pay attention there is even a bit of magic in the show. So if you’re in Las Vegas during the week his show is definitely a must see.
