Hollywood Actress Deysha Nelson Stars in Netflix’s ‘Holiday Rush,’ Premieres on Thanksgiving

Actress Deysha Nelson is rapidly ascending the ranks of the new wave of young, talented actresses taking over Hollywood. On Thanksgiving Day, she will take another major step towards becoming a household name with her role in the upcoming Netflix movie, “Holiday Rush.”

Appearing alongside Romany Malco, Sonequa Martin-Green, Lala Anothony, Tamala Jones, Stormi Maya, Deon Cole and others, ‘Holiday Rush’ is Christmas movie about a popular radio DJ and single dad, Rashon ‘Rush’ Williams (Romany Malco), who gets fired from his high profile position at a New York City radio station. A widower, he is forced to move his four spoiled kids into his Aunt’s house in order to regain his career and avoid losing everything. The family must band together and take a major leap of faith to secure their future. Nelson is on full display, playing the role of Mya, the sassy middle child obsessed with popularity.

At only 12 years old, Nelson possesses an on-screen presence that proves she is on the way to becoming one of the next big stars in film. She has appeared in many commercials, including for Lipton Iced Tea, the Philadelphia Zoo and AARP; and also on TV shows such as the CBS series “Godfriended Me” and Syfy show “Happy” among others. Already, she has made her presence felt among seasoned actors, carrying with her experiences that will be instrumental in catapulting her burgeoning career to new heights.

“The journey for me as a young actress has been joyful. I get to work with such amazing people and it is fun going to different sets and learning more things that I never knew before,” said the Nelson, who is also a twin. “I enjoy being able to tap into different characters and I also like that I get to travel a lot and see great reviews about me online from different directors and critics. I love googling myself and seeing what’s out there about me.”

‘Holiday Rush’ is a family movie that displays a mixture of comedic relief, romance and drama. It is also a positive story about a black father who rallies to protect and take care of his children, a narrative that is far-too-often omitted from Hollywood projects.

Nelson, prides herself on participating in projects that have positive messages and that uplift the black family. Needless to say, she jumped at the opportunity to take on the role in “Holiday Rush.” There is no doubt that Hollywood will be seeing a lot more from her. Her work ethic and drive keeps her consistently booked for projects in a field where black American stars are frequently being overlooked for their contemporaries overseas in London. She is definitely a breath of fresh air.

“I am working on a project with my twin sister expected to come out in the New Year and I will also be doing celebrity interviews for a big holiday event next month,” Nelson said. “I was hired earlier this year to be Assistant Director for a film expected to come out in the summer of 2020, so I am very excited about that. Not to mention, I have had meetings and auditions with networks like Disney and Nickelodeon.”
