0The Wild! Frontman Dylan Villain On The New Single “Playing With Fire,” Touring Canada & More
Without a record label, booking agent, or paid promotional team, in 2015 Canadian rock band The Wild! saw its first single “Roadhouse” hit the Canadian Active Rock radio charts. This gained The Wild! its booking agent, Ralph James, and the interest of producer Mike Fraser, who was offered frontman Dylan Villain’s ’65 Cadillac Deville to make the group’s first record. The band ultimately made a deal with North America’s biggest indie label Entertainment One (Ace Frehley, Funkmaster Flex).
The Wild!’s debut album, GxDxWxB, produced the Active Rock radio hit “Slow Burn,” which peaked at #5 in Canada. “Straight To Hell” and “What About You?” also cracked the Top 20. During this time, the band toured alongside the likes of Buckcherry, Godsmack, Korn, Rise Against, and Wolfmother.
In 2017, Wild At Heart — the second studio album by The Wild! — knocked Metallica out of the #2 spot on the iTunes Rock Charts when it debuted. “Ready To Roll” reached #4 at Active Rock radio in Canada and garnered the attention of American rock radio DJ and TV personality Eddie Trunk. This led to spots on major U.S. rock festivals Carolina Rebellion and Welcome To Rockville. Both headline and support tours also followed, this time alongside the likes of Airbourne, Steel Panther and Rose Tattoo.
“Playing With Fire” is the latest single by The Wild! — which consists of frontman Dylan Villain, guitarist/vocalist The Kid, bassist/vocalist Boozus and drummer Crash Anderson — and was its third collaboration with the aforementioned JUNO-Award winning producer Mike Fraser (AC/DC, Metallica, Slipknot). I had the pleasure of interviewing Dylan Villain by phone on October 21, 2019, and embedded below is audio from that conversation. More on Villain and his Wild! co-conspirators, including upcoming North American tour dates, can be found online at www.thewildrocknroll.com.
