Amazon Music Reveals Top Streamed Data for 2019

With 2019 coming to a close, Amazon Music is revealing insights into the top listening trends on the service today, including the most streamed artists, top streamed songs, and more. Coinciding with today’s data release, Amazon Music Unlimited and HD subscribers can check out Amazon Music’s annual Best of The Year playlists, which feature the top songs of the year by genre.

Here’s a look at the smash hits and popular artists across all tiers of Amazon Music in the U.S.:

  • The most streamed artist was 10-time GRAMMY Award-winning pop star, Taylor Swift.
  • Listeners’ favorite albums included Lover by Taylor Swift; WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? by Billie Eilish; and GIRL by Maren Morris.
  • Top streamed songs across the year were the “Old Town Road (Remix)” by Lil Nas X featuring Billy Ray Cyrus; “GIRL” by Maren Morris; “Sucker” by Jonas Brothers; “I Don’t Care” by Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber; and “Stronger Than Me” by Garth Brooks.

The success of Lil Nas X and his country-hip-hop crossover hit, “Old Town Road” was one of the biggest stories of 2019. Amazon Music saw Lil Nas X’s juggernaut single dominating not just country and hip-hop, but the service on the whole in the U.S.:

  • The most requested song on Alexa via Amazon Music was the “Old Town Road (Remix)” by Lil Nas X featuring Billy Ray Cyrus.
  • In addition, “Alexa, play the song that goes ‘I’m gonna take my horse to the old town road’” was the most requested lyric by Amazon Music customers in 2019.
  • Of the top-50 requests for country lyrics from 2019, 44 of the requests were some variation on the lyrics to “Old Town Road.”
  • After Lil Nas X, 17-year-old rapper Lil Tecca had the second most-requested hip-hop song by lyrics in 2019 off the surprise success of his hit, “Ransom,” with fans asking “Alexa, play the song that goes, “I got black, I got white” the most.
  • Luke Combs’ song “Beer Never Broke My Heart” was the most requested country song by lyrics — behind Lil Nas X.

Amazon Music’s annual Best of The Year playlists, also premiering today, include a combination of top songs based on listening data and choice picks from Amazon Music’s team of programmers. Amazon Music Unlimited and HD subscribers can now find all of the year’s top releases across hip-hop, pop, country, rock, and more.
