Bring In Much Needed Self-Love with Ashley Zarah + MKBLV’s – Like I Do

Live Hyperfollow | Spotify

Dark-pop artist Ashley Zarah announces the release of “Like I Do” in collaboration with electronic producer, MKBLV. “Like I Do” is an anthem for all those who love themselves so fearlessly that they don’t feel lonely when their life is lacking a romantic interest (not-so-ironically timed for an almost valentine’s day release).

All about self-respect, self-love, and the importance of being your own lover and best friend, “Like I Do” sees Zarah’s full, resonant voice and cleverly dissonant lyricism in a Pop/EDM format that begs listeners to sing along. Zarah’s dark-pop sound and powerful vocals are often compared to alternative-pop artists such as Lorde, The Neighbourhood, Halsey, and Paramore. Working with boundary pushing pop producer MKBLV, the production color palette does not shy away from the esoteric. Preferring to envelop the audience in the juxtaposition of lush soundscapes and mind bending dissonances, the attentive listener will be rewarded.

“Frustrated by society’s confusion of my not minding being single, I wrote “Like I Do” as an anthem for all those who love themselves so fearlessly that they don’t feel lonely when their life is lacking a romantic interest. Surrounded by trashy strangers at nightclubs, toxic lovers, and manipulative “friends,” I confidently blocked them off because I love and protect myself when I feel negative energy/intentions around me. So I imagine this song playing at a club, a party, even during the beloved month of February; I imagine it coming on when someone needs to hear it the most; to be reminded that they are confident, they are worth millions, and that it is perfectly okay to leave the club alone, even if people are pressuring you otherwise. There is nothing wrong with being your own lover and own best friend. Do not settle for less for the sake of simply having someone around. They have to love me like I love me, otherwise, ‘it’s fine. I know someone cuter than you anyway:’ Me.”

Ashley Zarah is an Iranian-American, singer/songwriter and Dark-Pop performer hailing from Los Angeles, CA. Zarah’s self-coined dissonant pop (referred to as Dark-Pop) is her way of merging difficult subject matter with digestible pop music, then dancing like a fire through it for the world to see. Her emphatic music and emotionally intelligent lyricism decode brutal truths, showing audiences that no pain is worth the disposal of a life.
