Manchester Based Musician Dominic Lawson Unveils Brand New Single ‘Wrap’

With a timeline that highlights many of his successes as singer and composer for brass fusion collective Twisted Tubes, while being the voice next to the legendary Hacienda DJs Graeme Parker and Mike Pickering for the critically acclaimed Hacienda Classical album and participating on projects such as Garage Classical, Colours Classical, Disco Classical, Birmingham born Manchester based artist, composer and musician Dominic Lawson is excited to unveil his brand new solo single titled ‘Wrap’.

The start of 2020 sees Dominic Lawson with two singles and ‘Wrap’ being the first to be released, co-produced with Andre Hutchinson, who has collaborated with Little Mix, Laura Mvula, and Mae Muller as well as co-written with Joe Hazlett. At the same time he puts the finishing touches to his debut solo EP, which will be released in the autumn, accompanied by his first ever solo UK nationwide tour. As a special precursor to his autumn tour, Dominic launched the single ‘Wrap’, with two special live shows in Manchester, backed by his 12-piece band The Thunder, on February 13 and February 26, the latter of which is supported by the MOBO Awards’ Help Musicians Fund.

Dominic Lawson explains how he got the inspiration for ‘Wrap’, “I wrote ‘Wrap’ with my friend Joe Hazlett, we had the chord sequence on loop and just talked forever. The song came about as we were talking about the woes of being single in our 20s, the dating scene is tough out here! Musically, I wanted an R&B throwback, having grown up on the likes of Destiny’s Child, Black Street, and Boyz II Men, meanwhile SZA’s ‘CTRL’ was playing in the background, so her flow and melodic choices also influenced us – we caught a vibe and just started running off these lines about falling for somebody”.

Dominic Lawson is a strong and exciting prospect for British music in 2020 considering the previous support he has gotten from BBC Radio 1, his live performances at Glastonbury Festival, Manchester Pride, and the Royal Albert Hall and scoring over 2 million plays. We should, also, add his projects with legendary names like Graeme Parker and Mike Pickering, collaborations with Hermes and Bentley, as well as commissioned work for LadBible and the British Army Music Corps. His musical style is mostly R&B and soul, but infused with lush pop, rock, jazz and classical music sensibilities, Dominic Lawson comes with an artistic credibility and versatility that set him apart from the current music landscape.
