Get On The Four!

I threw Four Quick Questions to some Musicians…. here’s the first One Top EDM Dance Artist Kim Cameron

Originally from the Los Angeles area, Kim Cameron moved to a number of states in the US with her family before settling in Nebraska where she earned her college degree in broadcast journalism. Growing up, she had played the clarinet in her school orchestra and marching band as a child and eventually landed musical theatre roles and sang in choirs in her young adult years. After college, she worked as a radio personality in Lincoln, NE and later worked for information technology companies in their media departments. While continuing to work in the corporate world, she moved to Miami Beach where she began her musical path by joining a local cover band in the early 90s. Tell us about the creation of a song, do you think of the lyrics spontaneously or is it a longer process?

Each song is a little different, but because I am storyteller, I believe, the song should tell the story. So, the lyrics for me, are created first 90% of the time.  Even if I have a melody in mind before the story, the melody always tells me what the story really is.

Are there certain artists that inspire you?

I am very inspired by artists who can effectively market their work while being creative at the same time. I still struggle with keeping a balance.

What do you do when you’re not making music?  Do you have hobbies or do you still have time to pursue them?

I love to aerial dance!   It’s always a learning process, which I lover and it’s super hard, which I also love.  I have done two shows, but am very very uncomfortable with my skills in this area, even after almost 4 years of dancing.

Is there anything in the music industry that you would like to change if you had the opportunity?

So much…I believe I would be writing a text book instead of a simple answer.  I guess, right now, I miss the love of live music.  Auto tuning has killed live music, kinda what MTV did to the radio.
