0The American Optometric Association’s Dr. Barbara Horn On “Save Your Vision Month” & Lyft
For a quarter of Americans, the struggle to make eye exams a priority is real. According to the American Optometric Association’s annual Eye-Q Survey, 27 percent of Americans say it’s challenging just getting to the location for said exam. And 61 percent of millennials, per that same AOA-commission study, say they would use a ride-share app to get an eye exam.
So the American Optometric Association is focused on eliminating that roadblock. The leading authority on — and leading advocate for — quality eye health care is teaming up with transportation service Lyft to offer free rides to anyone in select cities going to see an optometrist for a comprehensive eye exam during the month of March, also known as “Save Your Vision Month.”
Barbara L. Horn, O.D., was elected as a trustee to the American Optometric Association Board in June 2011 and elected President of the AOA’s board in June 2019. In addition to her position as President, Dr. Horn serves as chair to AOA’s Executive Committee and serves as a member to the Personnel Committee. She also serves as liaison to the American Academy Of Optometry, Great Western Council Of Optometry, and the East/West Eye Conference and Universidad InterAmericana. I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Horn by phone on March 2, 2020 as embedded and viewable below; apologies to the AOA — located online at www.aoa.org — for my early-morning pronounciation-fail of its full name; the first cup of coffee for March 2, 2020 had not yet been consumed at that time.
