VMP Artist Kai Exos Releases First Song & Video “Komorebi” From New Concept Album Slated For Spring 2020

Singer-songwriter Kai Exos today releases his new song and video, Komorebi, via VMP Music, his independent label and publishing group. Komorebi was produced by Kai Exos, engineered by Keyel Walker (WS Boogie, Jhené Aiko) and mixed by David Nakaji (BTS, Amine, Kendrick Lamar).

Komorebi is a short yet powerful glimpse into the reclusive artist’s ethereal dreamscape as imagined on a recent trip back to Tokyo.

Kai shares, “I finished writing Komorebi during typhoon season, on a sailboat (!) for my birthday. It’s so cool that they have words in Japanese to describe sacred, natural phenomenon like the light dappling through a forest canopy. Even as a little boy, I’ve always admired the magical quality and careful nature of their culture, so I wrote a love letter to it. Came out super pretty, writing the piano in Toronto and finishing up at my new studio in LA.”

The strong aesthetic that Komorebi embodies in the music video was borne of a side conversation between Kai and long-time friend, photographer Emari Traffie during a recording session. As a first-time director, she elegantly shone a spotlight on patterns that Kai often explores in his music; lineage, futurism, and ritual.

Komorebi is the first song from a new concept album due to be released in Spring 2020 with video releases on the way and show rehearsals in full swing.
