Canadian Artist Joël Drops New Single ‘Woes’

Multidisciplinary Toronto artist Joël has unveiled new single ‘Woes’, the second track from his forthcoming ‘GRUNGE GOSPEL (SIDE B)’ EP, due for release on May 29th.

‘Woes’ sees Joël’s commanding vocals combine with angst-laden yet poignant production to deliver a contemplative track that leaves a lasting impression. It follows February single ‘I’m really tryna hear you out but…’, which sees Joël‘s emotionally charged vocals paired with a charming lo-fi beat. Both will feature on the aforementioned ‘GRUNGE GOSPEL (SIDE B)’ due for release next month – the follow up to September’s ‘GRUNGE GOSPEL (SIDE A)’.

Speaking about the track, Joël says “‘At the time when I wrote ‘Woes’ I was in a good place. I was in L.A. making a lot of music trying a bunch of stuff and really just having fun, however, through it all, I had a dark cloud over my head.” He goes on to say, “The feeling that people were doubting me & didn’t care for me to succeed, getting people to support was always an issue for me. This is something I’ve shared with my dawgs many times as they can relate. When things get tough or seem hard, I’m never one to back down – even when anxiety takes over – I rather knock down that door & run through it than avoid the problem. Fear nothing but God, push through whatever you’re going through…you aren’t alone.”

Known for his own genre-defying musical style, Joël blends early gospel influences with his love for alternative grunge, christening this fresh new sound as ‘grunge gospel’. This individual brilliance has received support from a slew of influential publications, including Pigeons & Planes, DJBooth, Revolt TV and Noisey.

‘Woes’ sees Joël deliver a much-needed dose of musical escapism during these turbulent times.
