0Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Doug “Cosmo” Clifford On “Magic Window” Finally Coming Out & More
Few bands are universally loved and treasured like Creedence Clearwater Revival has been for decades. After all, how many bands have been covered by Elvis Presley, Kid Rock, Tina Turner, Solomon Burke, Alabama, Carrie Underwood, Bryan Adams, the Foo Fighters and the cast of Glee alike? The on-going influence of Creedence Clearwater Revival 50+ years later is especially amazing considering that the band was only active — pre-Internet, of course — for about four years.
In 1995, the original rhythm section of Creedence Clearwater Revival — bassist Stu Cook and drummer Doug “Cosmo” Clifford — regrouped under the moniker Creedence Clearwater Revisited. For about 25 years, Revisited remained a popular touring entity before embarking on a farewell tour; Revisited had been rounded out by guitarist Kurt Griffey, multi-instrumentalist Steve Gunner and vocalist/guitarist Dan McGuinness beyond an earlier incarnation of the group featuring The Cars’ Elliot Easton on lead guitar. This quintet had been dedicated to performing Creedence Clearwater Revival classics just as you remember them, rather than forcing you to listen to new compositions.
While attending 2017’s St. Kitts Music Festival, I had the pleasure of interviewing Cook and Clifford at the event’s press conference at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort for PureGrainAudio.com. Then one year later, I had the opportunity to speak with Cook again for The Hype and Clifford for Sportskeeda. And fortunately last year I was able to see Creedence Clearwater Revisited playing in top form on its farewell tour at Long Island, New York’s Tilles Center on a Friday evening in September 2019.
Earlier this year it was announced that Doug “Cosmo” Clifford had discovered long-lost studio recordings he had made in 1985. The sum of those recordings is Magic Window, which he will be releasing later this month on April 24th. Billboard has already premiered music from Magic Window.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Doug “Cosmo” Clifford by phone on April 13, 2020 about Magic Window, whether or not he unearthed other previously-unreleased recordings within his recent discovery, whether Creedence Clearwater Revisited is officially done, and more. The full chat is embedded below for your listening pleasure, while more on Clifford can be found online by visiting www.creedence-revisited.com and his official website at www.dougcosmoclifford.com.
